Grete
For the concert series at the music venue Grete, a smoking bar in Hamburg, a series of posters was developed for the performing artists.
As the lineup often consisted of emerging, lesser-known musicians, press materials such as photos or graphics were frequently unavailable. This required a flexible visual system capable of working independently of external imagery.
The initial posters transformed the artists’ names into fictional cigarette brands, with the poster designed as a cigarette pack—referencing the smoke-filled atmosphere of the venue. As the series evolved, the focus shifted entirely to typography, using the artists’ names as the sole visual element to create expressive typographic compositions. In later iterations, a graphic stencil typeface was introduced, generating structured patterns derived from the artists’ names.
